Hello! I'm wondering if there's a suggested workflow for creating a skeleton that can have skins quickly added to it later.

I've had success importing them as a separate skeleton then slowly moving the bits over and setting up a new skin (pretty slow and janky) and setting up multiple placeholder skins (this works but feels wonky since I won't be able to easily add more than the number of placeholders I've made)

Is there a way to set up a file in photoshop or while rigging that allows new skins to pop in automatically?

Thanks!

Hi Brett, we actually started thinking about how to ease the addition of new skins in photoshop a while back, but so far the fastest workflow has been this:

  1. export with the photoshop script
  2. import the new json as a second skeleton in your existing project
  3. make a copy of an existing skin (especially if that shares some pieces with the new skin)
  4. use find and replace to replace the pieces that are the same in both skin from one folder to the other skin folder
  5. delete the not common/different mesh parts
  6. drag the different parts from the new skeleton to the old one
  7. parent the images to the bones

You can see the complete process here: (I highly recommend navigating the video by using the chapters listed in the description of the video)

Coolio, this is what I've been doing and it works pretty well. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on a smoother method.

Keep up the work on those tutorial videos! They're great!

I'm having issues trying to get these steps to work. I'm sorry, but when you're jumping back and forth on imports, skins, having issues, etc. during the demo, I get a bit lost on where I should be, what I should and should not have done, etc.
I've been working on this for days, and cannot seem to get this process down.

I'm sorry you run into problems with this, I'll try to make a clearer resource with a simpler skeleton to follow.

Have you gotten around to this?
