Hi Again...

How do I get the skins in the editor to swap between my skin placeholders? I have multiple jackets and the player selects jacket red for the red skin and jacket blue for the blue skin but it stays on the last one selected. How do I make it so the skin changes the placeholder that is selected automatically.

Hi Tim,

Skin placeholders act as placeholders for what will be shown. Their contents varies depending on which skin is active.
To get the result you want, you just need one skin placeholder:
Activate the red skin, and place the red jacket under that skin placeholder.
Next, activate the blue skin, you'll notice the skin placeholder is now empty. Place the blue jacket under that same skin placeholder.

If you need to have a version of the jacket that belongs to that same skin but is a different pose, for example a jacket as seen from the front and one from the side, then you'll need a skin placeholder for both versions of the jacket. Both will be filled by red jackets from the front and from the side, and the same goes for the blue ones.

I hope this clarifies a bit better how skin placeholders work. If you're in doubt I think giving a peek to the user guide videos, or the mix and match project may help too!

Hi Erikari,

I understand what you are saying. I am attempting to create all my variations onto the same skin placeholder so they shift according to the skin that is selected. Problem is that I have four skin placeholders for each variation. When I delete the excess skin holders they delete the linked mesh even If I move it to another skin placeholder. Also I am worried that they are perfectly meshed and positioned right now, if I have to delete it all and start over that could screw up my animations. I need to figure out how to preserve the images yet get rid of the excess placeholders.

Perhaps Ill start by getting rid of the meshes being linked.

Meshes being linked was the issue. Once they are all unlinked and re-parented to the slot bone away from the placeholder skin I have the ability to repopulate the skin placeholders and then delete the excess meshes.

Note when you have linked meshes that one of the meshes is the source mesh. You can delete the linked meshes individually, but if you delete the source mesh it will also delete all the linked meshes.
